Drakelow is an area of beautiful mixed woodland and heath land camouflaging a red sandstone escarpment, the vast majority of which has been untouched since before the Second World War. The distinctive sandstone cliffs form the southern part of Kinver Edge. This beautiful ridge straddles the Worcestershire Staffordshire border some five miles to the north of Kidderminster and eight miles to the west of the Black Country. This area has been used as an amenity by the neighbouring industrial towns since the mid 19th century and its unspoilt beauty is widely famed and recognised.
The Drakelow Preservation Trust (DPT) was founded in 2006, our aim being to protect this special area of countryside from a proposed development which would result in the loss of a unique area of exceptional environmental, historic and archaeological importance. The DPT is made up of both locals and people from throughout the UK who were brought together in opposition to the proposed destruction of this special site.
